Triangle Youth Brass Band
The Triangle Youth Brass Band is made up of 45 high school brass and percussion musicians in the Central North Carolina area. They represent 16 high schools from a five-county area. The band members meet in Raleigh for rehearsal each Tuesday evening beginning in late fall and continuing through early summer, and perform in three to four concerts each season. They are the 2001 and 2002 winners of the Youth Division at the North American Brass Band Championships. Currently in its sixth season, the Triangle Youth Brass Band was formed as part of the Triangle Brass Band’s expansion of its educational endeavors. The mission of this Band is to provide an opportunity for the finest area high school brass and percussion players to develop their skills by performing in a British Brass Band. Its purpose is to supplement the wind band experience in the schools and to raise the level of brass playing in the area. Tony Granados, the director of the Triangle Youth Brass Band, is a freelance tuba player and teacher in the central North Carolina area. He performs as a substitute and extra with the North Carolina and Roanoke Symphonies. He also performs with the North Carolina Wind Orchestra. He directs brass students and ensembles at many area high schools and middle schools, while maintaining a large and active private studio. A native of Bowie, Md., Granados attended the University of Kentucky and performed with the Lexington Brass Band and the Advocate Brass Band. He was also a driving force with the Four Horsemen Tuba Quartet, winners of the 1998 NABBA adult ensemble competition. Granados is pursuing an orchestral career as a tubist. |
