Publication Date: 06/11/02
A photo contest with the theme of the Great American Brass Band Festival is open to all shutterbugs.
No distinction will be made for experience.
Entries will be taken in four categories, with three
entries maximum per format per photographer in each of the categories.
The categories are:
1. Performers at the GABBF
2. People and/or pets attending the GABBF
3. GABBF-related events, such as the Friday History
Conference and Balloon Race; GABBF Parade; flower show and vendors at the
GABBF.
4. Experimental or composite images from the GABBF, for photographers who want to use Photoshop creatively, especially in the digital format.
The formats are prints, slides and digital photos. A
300 dpi resolution is preferred for digital submissions.
There will be three judges for the event:
Dr. Glen Kleine, professor emeritus at Eastern
Kentucky University and GABBF photo contest
organizer; Clay Jackson , chief photographer for The
Advocate-Messenger; and Tim Webb, the university
photographer for Eastern Kentucky University. None of the judges or officials of the GABBF are eligible to
enter photographs in the competition.
All of the individuals working with the photo
competition are volunteers.
"The annual brass band festival in Kentucky is one of
the most colorful festivals in the state of Kentucky,"
said Kleine. "Photographers will have ample
opportunity to capture this color at the hot air balloon
race on Friday evening, at the parade in downtown
Danville on Saturday morning, and at the various sites featuring bands both on Saturday and Sunday."
Kleine, who produced a Web site with links to both
the official GABBF web site, said photographs of the
2000 and 2001 Great American Brass Band Festival
and Conference may be found at:

Details on the competition and photo contest entry forms are also available at this site.
