National Capital Band
The National Capital Band was established in
1925 as the ``Washington Headquarters Band'' of the Salvation
Army. This date actually preceded the formation of the Salvation
Army U.S.A. Southern Territory.
The band, led by Stephen Bulla since 1985, has
traveled widely throughout the United States, Canada and Jamaica.
In 1989, the band undertook an ambitious three-week concert
campaign through New Zealand and Australia. In June 1991, the
band took a two-week tour of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and
Estonia. The next major excursion was to Russia.
As staff arranger for ``The President's Own''
U.S. Marine Band and White House Orchestra, Bulla is responsible
for the music that is performed at presidential functions and for
visiting heads of states.
In the area of recordings, the band became
internationally recognized as the first Salvation Army brass band
to produce a compact disc of music not previously released in any
other compilation. The band's other recordings are noted for its
pioneering efforts in the area of programming seldom-heard
classics, as well as newly composed music for brass.
The band's mission is to be an emissary of
Jesus Christ through the performance of spiritually inspired
music.
