202nd Army Band

The 202nd Army Band was formed during World War II in Lexington, Ky., with a total strength of seven people. Today, with more than 40 people, the band is one of the most exciting opportunities in the guard. The band has been stationed in high school gymnasiums and aircraft hangars. Today, it enjoys the use of a modern rehearsal facility in Frankfort, Ky.

As one of the best bands in the military, this group has performed both nationally and internationally.

What do you love about brass band music?
Brass bands are exciting. They fill the air with enthusiasm and a wonderful full sound.

Most shining moment?
When the band played for the Ambassador of Chile.

``Washington Post March.''

Percent of the year spent traveling?
75 percent

Other than Danville, one of the most interesting places to perform and why?
The country of Chile. Most concerts are performed in gazebos, which makes the setting unique.

Where was the most reception audience?
We have had many receptive audiences, but we would have to say in the country of Chile. They love march music.

Little known facts about the group?
Our musicians come from all walks of life. We have school teachers, factory workers and attorneys.
