The 2006 GABBF was held June 8-11, 2006! Step back in time and celebrate an American Tradition! Imagine a lazy summer day on a picture-perfect college campus in a Norman Rockwell small town, listening to the world's best brass band musicians playing patriotic tunes and favorite popular standards on three stages. Add to that four days of family fun rounding out a magical, musical experience consistently called the nation's foremost festival of brass band music. On Friday evening the Great American Balloon Race will be held at Stuart Powell Field - Boyle County Airport. Gates open at 5 p.m. and lift off is after 7 p.m. If weather postpones the balloon race, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday evening after the concerts. ************************************************** The Arts Commission of Danville-Boyle County sponsors the Gallery Hop Stop from 5:30-9 p.m. more than 20 downtown locations showcasing the works of more than 40 local artists. There will be light hors d'oeuvres served. Event maps are available at welcome centers, motels/hotels, B&Bs, and all Hop Stop locations. Danville artist Paul Sirimongkhon, the artist whose work is featured on the festival's 2006 commemorative poster (shown here) will be at the Community Arts Center to sign purchases. Check out the other souvenirs available this year - 2006 T-shirt - 2006 Poster - 2006 Pin Poster, pin and t-shirt designed by John Dixon of Dixon Designs ****************************************************** Circle City Sidewalk Stompers - 7:30 p.m. at O'Charley's restaurant. ****************************************************** Free evening band performances - 8-10 p.m. Great Olympian Traditional Jazz Band at the Weisiger Park bandstand in downtown Danville, next to the Courthouse; and 7-9 p.m. Rhythm and Brass at Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg. Be sure to bring a lawn chair.
Other Saturday (June 10) events: Great American Pancake Breakfast from 7-10:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The cost is $5. ***************************************************** Main Street Parade beginning at 11 a.m. that leads to the Main Stage on the Centre College campus. **************************************************** Great American Picnic at 5 p.m. on the Centre College lawn during the afternoon concerts. Bring your picnic basket, visit the food vendors or purchase a catered meal. **************************************************** Fireworks Extravaganza after dark
Other Sunday (June 11) events: Outdoor Worship Service beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Stage, Centre College. The Danville Community and its churches come together to invite all our guests for an ecumenical worship service, accompanied by inspirational brass band music.
