GABBF 2004

The GABBF 2004 festival will be held, June 12-13, 2004. However, many other family festivities will be held beginning on Thursday afternoon with a Chautauqua Tea. New additions to the festivities include a Great American Movie Night on Friday for a rainy day screening of "The Music Man" and a Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday night after dark and much more!!

Imagine a lazy summer day on a picture-perfect college campus in a Norman Rockwell small town, listening to the world's best brass band musicians playing patriotic tunes and favorite popular standards on three stages. Add to that four days of family fun rounding out a magical, musical experience consistently called the nation's foremost festival of brass band music. Year after year, the Great American Brass Band Festival attracts more than 40,000 visitors from around the globe. Don't miss out on the fun!

Family Festivities All Weekend long!

2004 Chautauqua Tea, Thursday, June 10
This afternoon tea features edible delights and edifying highlights, including a presentation and performance by one of the Festival brass bands. Teas are at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., the program is at 4 p.m. hosted by The Tea Leaf and West T. Hill Community Theatre. Tickets are $15 and reservations are a must. Heart of Danville Antique and Garden Show Gala Preview Party, Thursday, June 10 
Browse fine furnishings and accessories for the home and garden from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and all weekend long at the Warehouse at Centre College, West Walnut Street. Reservations suggested - 859-236-1909.

Pioneer Playhouse Season Premiere Thursday, June 10
Outdoor dinner theater presents a premiere performance of “Mr. Shaw Goes to Hollywood” the critically-acclaimed LA play that opens next year on Broadway! Dinner at 7:30 p.m. and/or showtime 8:30 p.m. Call 859-236-2747 for reservations!

Conference on American Band History, Friday, June 11
Top musical scholars and performers host a brass band history conference from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. at Centre College celebrating the sesquicentennial of John Philip Sousa, the most influential bandleader in American brass music and the composer of Stars & Stripes Forever For more information, contact boylecocdc@bellsouth.net or call 800-755-0076.

Great American Balloon Race, Friday, June 11 
Up, up and away to one of the largest old-time balloon races in the nation! Gates open with lively brass music at 5 p.m. at Stuart Powell Field and balloons lift off after 7 p.m. Rain and wind date; Sunday evening, same time.

Great American Movie Night Friday, June 11 
If weather postpones the balloon race don’t despair! Bring your picnics and join us for a rainy day screening of “The Music Man,” location to be announced. Free popcorn, with other refreshments available! Doors open at 5:30 p.m., show begins at 6:30 p.m.

Performances By The World’s Top Brass Bands Saturday & Sunday, June 12 & 13
Join us throughout downtown Danville and on the campus of Centre College for two fabulous days of Brass Band entertainment. Music Saturday from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 11a.m.-6 p.m.

New Orleans-Style Parade, Saturday, June 12
Jazz it up with a New Orleans-style parade down Main Street in “America’s Hometown” Danville, Kentucky! Parade begins at 11:00 am.

Great American Decorator Picnic Saturday, June 12
Reserve a front-row seat for dinner and music with family and friends on the Centre College lawn. Bring blankets and lawn chairs or reserve a table for a tax- deductible donation of $150. Call 859-236-7000 for more information. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. 

Fireworks Extravaganza, Saturday, June 12 
Fireworks under the stars at the main stage as the music plays on. Display begins after dark.

Ecumenical Church Service, Sunday, June 13 
Danville community churches host a non- denominational worship service & inspirational brass band music on the lawn of Old Centre at 9:15 a.m.
Note: In case of rain, the community church service will be moved to Newlin Hall in Norton Center for the Arts at Centre College. The service begins at 9:15 a.m.

Something NEW! On Sunday night (June 13) after the final band performs, a Battle of the Civil War Bands will take place on the porch of Old Centre. It's Saxtons Cornet Band vs. The Federal City Brass Band. Don't miss it!
