GABBF 2003


The GABBF 2003 festival was held, June 13-15,
2003, (Father's Day weekend).
Festivities kicked off on Friday with a Chautauqua Tea.
The festival is a one of a kind event full of great music and proven to be an
unforgettable event!
During its first decade, the Great American Brass Band Festival has attracted more
than a quarter of a million visitors from throughout the United States and abroad. It is
truly ``America's greatest band concert in the park,'' and has been featured in articles
in major publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Tribune, and Southern
Living.

Webmaster's
tip: Wear comfortable shoes, bring an umbrella or raincoat, a blanket, a camera, some
sunscreen and a lawn chair!

2003 Contests --
Learn about this year's contests, "Making Brass Band Memories" and the
Photo Contest. Note: The link is to a

With the photo contest, participants may submit their photos
(digital or film-processed) by June 30 to Karen Hilyard, The Idea Farm, P.O. Box
1457, Danville, Ky. 40423-1457 or karen@theideafarm.net.
The winner will be determined by a panel of professional photographers from
Central and Northern Kentucky. The winner and two runners-up also will win a
poster, T-shirt and pin from this year’s festival.
2003
Chautauqua Tea (June 13). A Chautauqua Tea will be held at
The Tea Leaf Restaurant and West T. Hill Community Theatre. The musical and
educational performance includes a full afternoon tea.
Tea times are 3 p.m. & 5 p.m. - performance at 4 p.m. Reservations for
the Chautauqua Tea may be made by calling 859-236-7456.

There will NOT be a Conference on American Band History
held this year.
Other events - Heart of Danville Antique & Garden Show will be
held at The Warehouse at Centre College from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m on
Friday-Sunday, (June 13-15).
The Great American Balloon Race
- Dozens of hot air balloons fill the sky on Friday
evening, June 13. The race will be held at our local airport just off Hwy. 127
South - gates open at 5 p.m. and lift off is after 7 p.m. The
rain/wind date Sunday evening, same time and location. CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER!
The
Great American Picnic (June
14)
The mixture of brass bands, outrageous costumes, and good
food make the Saturday evening picnic one of the highlights of the festival.

Community Worship
Service. A community wide,
ecumenical worship service on Sunday morning (June 15). Note:
In case of rain, the community church service will be moved to Newlin Hall in
Norton Center for the Arts at Centre College. The service begins at 9:15 a.m.
