Foreman resigns as festival organizerThe Great American Brass Band Festival committee announced today that this year's festival is a go. With regret, the committee has accepted the resignation of George Foreman, festival organizer, from the committee. The committee is reorganizing to expand its capabilities. Production duties for this year's festival will be shared with staff at Centre College. Jerry Boyd, longtime logistics coordinator of volunteers, said, "For all of us on board from day one, we truly appreciate the leadership and artistry of George. As the festival continues to move in somewhat of a different direction, all of us are grateful for George Foreman's leadership and vision." Mary Schurz, festival committee secretary, said, "The festival has provided Danville a signature event to showcase our community and all of its assets. "We are indebted to George for his dream of creating a festival unlike any other. It has improved with each successive year. Unfortunately, its expansion has outgrown its means. "We are grateful to Centre College for graciously providing its campus and its staff to stage the festival." This story ran in the Advocate on April 9. See Related articles: |
