Oh, the places they will playBy ANNABEL GIRARD With apologies to Dr. Seuss Oh, the places you'll go when you come to our city You'll go uptown and downtown and even around town Follow drummers and marchers; see hot-air balloons aloft There is no danger of getting tired of being in one place at the brass band festival. The concerts will provide a movable feast of band music. Friday night will take you to Stuart Powell Field for the balloon race, where time spent waiting for hot-air balloons to float skyward will be filled with music by various groups. Sunday is the only day when performances will be limited to one venue (to borrow an Olympic term). Saturday, Danville will be ringing with music from one end of Main Street to the other. During the day, performances will be at nine different locations before it's time for festival-goers to settle down on the lawn in front of Old Centre for the picnic and evening concert. Locating bands throughout town makes it possible to offer a greater variety of music and help those who want to stroll through Danville and check out the stores. It will be possible to get an ``up-close-and-personal'' view of Danville and never be out of hearing of band music. As a guide to newcomers, Main Street runs east-west. Festival events will stretch from Centre College to Constitution Square State Historic Site. To help orient you, when you stand at Main and Fourth with the Courthouse on the left, you're facing east. The numbered streets start at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with First Street and end at Fifth Street at The Presbyterian Church. The Saturday parade starts at Constitution Square and moves west down Main Street to Centre College. Performances sites along the street are: And while you are roving up and down Main Street, so will one of the bands. Circle City Stompers will spend some of Saturday morning entertaining all along Main Street. |
