Oh, the places they will play

With apologies to Dr. Seuss

Oh, the places you'll go when you come to our city
To listen to many brass bands playing so pretty

You'll go uptown and downtown and even around town
Go to the big stage in the land of the college gown.

Follow drummers and marchers; see hot-air balloons aloft
Hear cornets and euphoniums blowing notes hot and soft.

There is no danger of getting tired of being in one place at the brass band festival. The concerts will provide a movable feast of band music.

Friday night will take you to Stuart Powell Field for the balloon race, where time spent waiting for hot-air balloons to float skyward will be filled with music by various groups.

Sunday is the only day when performances will be limited to one venue (to borrow an Olympic term).

Saturday, Danville will be ringing with music from one end of Main Street to the other. During the day, performances will be at nine different locations before it's time for festival-goers to settle down on the lawn in front of Old Centre for the picnic and evening concert.

Locating bands throughout town makes it possible to offer a greater variety of music and help those who want to stroll through Danville and check out the stores. It will be possible to get an ``up-close-and-personal'' view of Danville and never be out of hearing of band music.

As a guide to newcomers, Main Street runs east-west. Festival events will stretch from Centre College to Constitution Square State Historic Site. To help orient you, when you stand at Main and Fourth with the Courthouse on the left, you're facing east. The numbered streets start at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with First Street and end at Fifth Street at The Presbyterian Church.

The Saturday parade starts at Constitution Square and moves west down Main Street to Centre College.

Performances sites along the street are:
* Main Stage at Centre College between Main and Walnut streets.
* Newlin Hall. Well, not exactly on Main Street, but just a block off Main Street at College and Walnut streets on the Centre campus.
* Newlin Hall lawn, same as above, but outside.
* Centre Shoppes, near Fifth Street across from The Presbyterian Church.
* Gazebo at Weisiger Park, Fourth Street next to the Boyle County Courthouse.
* Farmers National Bank, Third and Main.
* Danville Office Equipment, on Main Street between Second and Third.
* Constitution Square, at Second Street.

And while you are roving up and down Main Street, so will one of the bands. Circle City Stompers will spend some of Saturday morning entertaining all along Main Street.
