Talent search underway by local arts commissionA fantastic array of talent comes to Danville to participate in the Great American Brass Band Festival. What many attending might not be aware of is that one of the headliners, the Advocate Brass Band, is composed of a number of local musicians. The Arts Commission of Danville is currently on a search to identify and catalog musicians such as these instrumentalists for an Arts Directory. This directory will include visual artists as well as performing artists; arts organizations and galleries; performing groups, recording studios and theatres; teachers of visual and performing arts; providers of instruments and art supplies, framers, etc. So far the Arts Commission has been in touch with over 160 artists and arts organizations who were invited to a get-together at T.J.s Coffee House in April. This group will form the basis of the Directory which the Commission plans to have on the Web and in print by the end of this year. The mission of the Arts Commission is to provide a bridge between the arts and the community by promoting and encouraging the work of artists and arts organizations. One of the way in which we have been carrying out this mission is by publishing a quarterly arts calendar which is available free to the public at community locations such as the post office and public library. The directory will be another way to support the arts. So if you are a visual or performing artist, or provide one of the arts related services listed above, the Arts Commission wants to know more about you so that you can be included in the Arts Directory for Danville/Boyle County. Or, if you know of a piano player, vocalist, musician, dancer, actor, painter or other type of artist, get in touch with the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County at (859) 238-0063, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; by Email: arts@ci.danville.ky.us. |
