1998 Chautauqua Tea
``Together Again: Tweedie and Paul - Swing Time.''The sounds of the Big Band Era. The humor of James Thurber. The prose of F. Scott Fitzgerald. The music, wit and wisdom of the 1930s will provide the atmosphere for the theme of this year's Chautauqua Tea, the traditional opening act of the Great American Brass Band Festival. The theme is ``Together Again: Tweedie and Paul - Swing Time.'' Tweedie is Tweedie Minor, locally renowned pianist, who will play several musical selections from the 1930s, Paul is Paul Cantrell, locally renowned raconteur, who will read from the writing of Robert Benchley, Thurber, Fitzgerald and other writers of the era. The Chautauqua Tea will be held at 4 p.m. June 11 at the Tea Leaf Restaurant at 230 W. Broadway. Tickets are $12 each. Reservations are recommended. Call 236-7456. The event recreates the atmosphere of a turn-of-the-century afternoon tea and a Chautauqua gathering, where traveling companies brought cultural events to rural areas. The festival itself will be held June 12-14. One-half of the proceeds go to the Brass Band Festival.
