Chautauqua Tea

Each year, a Chautauqua Tea gathering is held featuring a program of music and readings most often related to the festival topic. The event recreates the atmosphere of a turn-of-the century afternoon tea and a Chautauqua, where traveling companies brought cultural events into rural areas.

The 2008 Chautauqua Tea will feature a full tea and musical Chautauqua performance at 2 p.m. June 12, 2008, at Toy Box Catering, 312 W. Main Street, Danville and The Community Arts Center, 401 W. Main Street, Danville. Tea time will be at 2 p.m. at the Toy Box Dining Room and at 3 p.m. in the Community Arts Center, in conjunction with the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebration.

The Chautauqua program will present a dramatic performance by Angela Bartley as Mary Todd Lincoln, sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council. Saxton's Cornet Band, an authentic Civil War musical group, will also be in concert for part of the program at the Community Arts Center.

Tickets are $20.00 per person and are now available for the full tea and performances. Reservations are a must and tickets are limited. Tickets may be purchased at Grayson's Tavern on Constitution Square Park or call (859) 236-7794/ (800) 755-0076 to reserve
your seat. The Chautauqua program at the Community Arts Center is open to the public. Reserved seating will be available to ticket holders from the Chautauqua Tea. Click here for more information.

The 2007 Chautauqua tea was held at the Chateau du Vieux Corbeau Winery. A traditional afternoon tea before or after program/performance presented by Philip Smith, trumpet, and Joseph Turrin, piano, on the lawn at the Old Crow Inn, 471 Stanford Ave.
