About the band

The Advocate Brass Band is a Danville, Kentucky-based brass band reminiscent of turn-of-the-century town bands. The group was founded by George Foreman (managing director of Centre College's Norton Center for the Arts) with encouragement and support from Mary Schurz, former publisher and current chairman and editor emeritus of The Advocate-Messenger and The Kentucky Advocate. The band is headed by two directors -- Vince DiMartino and Earle Louder. Dudley Spoonamore is manager of The Advocate Brass Band.

The band's attire ranges from traditional band uniforms to white shirts with khaki pants. It gives Sunday afternoon outdoor concerts each spring and fall in the gazebo at the Boyle County courthouse on Main Street in Danville. The band serves as the host band for and performer in the annual Great American Brass Band Festival held each year in June in Danville. The band has recorded CDs, and performed abroad on tour on the island of Trinidad and in Europe visiting Herforst and Leimen, Germany, and in towns in Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands.
