Gift of a Song

sheet musicThe Advocate Brass Band's repertoire includes a variety of songs. Some are borrowed from the classics. Some are taken from modern composers.

In a tip of the tuba, the California Gold Rush Band sent the Danville band, host of the Great American Brass Band Festival, a special musical present. It's a piece titled the ``Kentucky Gold Rush March.''

The march was written by Ken Whitcomb, who, before his retirement, played in and arranged music for the Disneyland Band. He's a comrade of Steve Charpie, who plays in the Disneyland Band and is a founder of the California Gold Rush Band.

The march is the third song written for the Danville band. Previous gifts are ``The Advocate-Messenger March'' by Leonard Smith and ``The Great American Brass Band Festival March'' by Jim Johnson.
